Sileshi Demissie is a very talented Ethiopian musician. He uses
Kirar, a traditional Ethiopian string instrument, as his instrumental
background and plays music in his native language Amharic. Sileshi Demissie uses
a very different and attractive singing style to play his music that always
seems to entertain his audience.
Sileshi Demissie was born in Addis Ababa. Sileshi Demissie states
in different interviews that he has a normal childhood, although he found a
love for music at a young age. He later attended Yared music school in Addis
Ababa. He also spent few years studying different traditional Ethiopian music
and culture in rural areas of Ethiopia.
Sileshi Demissie spent 20 years in the USA where he became a
successful singer. He played at different concerts in Europe and America. After
returning to his homeland Sileshi Demissie founded the Gash Abera Mola association
where he addressed vital problems of the community. Most people from Ethiopian
know Sileshi Demissie as Gash Abera Mola because of the prominent role he
provided along with the association in addressing his community’s social and
economical problems.
